Speciality Camps: Chesapeake Child, Cove Crabs, Fishing, and Windsurfing Camps
Chesapeake Child Camp: Ages 6-8
This closely supervised, one-week camp allows slightly younger kids to experience the Chesapeake. Fun, active days include adventures such as crabbing, fishing, sailing, seine netting, kayaking, hiking, orienteering, environmental stewardship, beach volleyball, as well as digging for Bay treasures. Although campers will not learn to sail a boat solo, they will experience sailing on board a boat with a sailing instructor.
Based on the weather, each day’s activities will be varied and plentiful. The frequency of sailing, and all activities, is weather dependent and opportunist. For example, one session found a box turtle during a nature walk. That afternoon was spent making a terrarium for the turtle.
BCSC has kid-friendly, sit-on-top kayaks for each Chesapeake Child participant. Campers will learn how to balance and paddle these boats properly and will spend time practicing in the water just off the beach.

These extremely popular one-week camps are a unique experience for kids ranging from beginners to more experienced anglers. Rocky Point Park offers numerous idyllic fishing spots which campers will experience as they learn to collect bait, select a fishing spot, bait hooks, cast a line, reel in a keeper, and then clean/ prepare their fish; all in a safe manner. BCSC provides the bait, but you will need to bring your own fishing rod, line and hooks.
On the Wednesday or Thursday (weather dependent) of each session, campers will take a day trip on the Chesapeake Bay Deadrise "Galloway Girl" for a day of fishing the more remote areas of the Chesapeake Bay. This boat is owned and captained by a licensed USCG Captain and chartered by BCSC for this purpose. Unfortunately, campers will not be able to take fish home.
