Summer Camp Policies and Procedures

BCSC Sailing Camps develop confident, sea-savvy skippers, in as little as one week. Our US Sailing Certified instructors introduce our co-ed campers to sailing concepts and terms in a fun and safe environment.

All of our Summer Camp Programs run Monday-Thursday from 9:00AM-4:00PM and Friday from 9:00AM-3:00PM.......All of our camps offer complimentary bus service!

2-Week Sailing Camp (Ages 8-16)
This is our most popular and encompassing camp.  Based on sailing experience and age, sailors will be placed in groups with their peers. Each group of 6-8 sailors will be led by a U.S. Sailing Certified Instructor and larger groups will have a CIT as well. Newer, younger sailors will learn to sail solo on a Hunter Xcite, while older and/ or more experienced sailors will sail either a Hunter Xcite with a Turbo sail or a two-person JY-15. When you register for this camp, you will have the opportunity to mention prior sailing experience, request a boat (mainly for returning sailors), identify friends in the same session, or just share something that will help us determine the best fit for a group.

The curriculum will be tailored for each group! This camp can be repeated for many years; we guarantee new skills and experiences every year. First year sailors will learn parts of the boat, rigging, capsize recovery, wind awareness, points of sail, steering, sail trim,   introduction to racing, and play sailing games. Returning sailors will review skills from prior years and then expand their sailing to include skills such as racing, rudderless sailing, teamwork, apparent wind, close quarters maneuvers, dry walkovers, and sailing games. Sailors will go on an exploration adventure to Hart-Miller Island on the first Friday of Camp. Each session will culminate in a graduation ceremony, where parents can visit and see their children sail. $700

This camp is designed to teach racing and boat appreciation. Sailors will learn to race the most popular boat in the world—the Optimist Pram! By sailing every day, these young sailors will begin to think of their boat as an extension of themselves. They will take pride in its appearance, and learn how to make it do everything they want it to.  This boat is both versatile and exciting, despite its funny shape.
Sailors will go on numerous adventures, including a trip to Pleasure Island and a circumnavigation of Hart-Miller Island.  Racing will also be a big focus, and this camp will include a travel regatta. Campers will load their boats onto our trailer and will meet up at a regatta hosted by another CBYRA junior program on the Chesapeake Bay.  Sailors will compete in the “green fleet” at this regatta against other novice racers.      Prerequisite:  Any sailing camp.   $1000

There may be some days with trapezes as well (sailors must provide their own trapeze harnesses). Primarily, the focus will be on teamwork, racing and boat handling. This camp may travel to a CBYRA regatta to compete against other Club 420s on the Bay.  Prerequisite: Opti Green Fleet, high school sailing, or a JY-15 Camp.  $1000
