BCSC- Behind the Scenes Volunteer Crew

Unbeknownst to campers, racers and families associated with the Baltimore County Sailing Center, there is a group of dedicated volunteers who meet most Tuesday mornings almost all year long to take care of everything associated with the center.  They usually work for 3 or 4 hours and fix anything that needs repair on the property as well as sail boats, buildings, motor boats and anything else that is used as part of our programs.

2 volunteers mainly work on keeping the motors on the power boats cleaned and in working condition so that we can run our sailing programs without having to worry about breakdowns.  Other volunteers keep all of the tools and sailboat parts in good shape, so that our sailors can enjoy the experience of sailing to it’s fullest.

This Spring, we have cleaned up  areas to enhance the appeal of our center as well as repairing a large portion of one of the fences that protect our equipment. We also just got delivery of a brand new 4 x 4 CF Moto Uforce 600 machine that will make our operations much more manageable. This includes moving boats in and out of the water and around the facility as well as having the capacity to transport items that we use for our programs to the different locations on the property where they are held.

Let’s give a Shout-Out to our Tuesday team: Bob Batista, Sonny Dietz, Doug Breakstone, Sam Jackson and Susan Davis. If any of you are interested in joining our team (for any amount of time you can spare), we have lots of interesting things that you could help with. No experience necessary.

Water Safety Watch

The health and safety of sailors and campers are a top priority for us at the Baltimore County Sailing Center (BCSC).  Please note that we are keeping a steady eye on the water quality situation in Back River.  As part of the Baltimore County Recreation and Parks system, we receive our guidance from the county.  They routinely check the water quality in and around BCSC and will alert us if there are unsafe conditions.  In the event of unsafe water conditions, BCSC will take necessary measures to keep everyone safe.

mission

The Baltimore County Sailing Center (BCSC) is a nonprofit community sailing center that is driven largely by volunteers dedicated to bringing people of all ages and abilities onto the water and inspiring a life-long passion for sailing. The center specializes in summer camp programs, junior sailing, and racing.  BCSC  also connects with the community through its partnership programs that encourage those who may not have the opportunity and/or access to the water to gain a full Chesapeake Bay experience!
