Sailing 401 and 402 Hawk Racing Team

The BCSC racing program includes High School, College, Fall Optimist, Special Olympics, and the Hawk summer race team. Our sailors have competed on the regional, national, and international levels. Joining the summer team is the first step in pursuing excellence in sailboat racing!
The sailors will train hard and have the experience of traveling to other clubs and centers around the bay. It is a longer commitment than our other programs and families are required to help load the trailers, tow boats to the events, and often plan for overnight trips to yacht clubs on the Eastern Shore. If you are considering the race team for the first time and would like to know more about the program, please email us at administration@bcsailing.org.
Sailing 301 Hawk Optimist Learn to Race

The Optimist learn to race program is well suited for sailors, 12 years old and younger with at least 4 weeks of sail training. If your sailor would like to participate and has sailed less than 4 weeks please let the director know of your interest. We intend to hold some pre-season clinics to help sailors get comfortable before camp starts and those clinics will help less experienced sailors get up to speed.
This group will work with their coach on the fundamentals of sailboat racing and will compete in the Green Fleet at regattas around the bay. The Green Fleet is more relaxed and is designed for new racers. Although these sailors will have their own coach and train within their group, they are Hawks, will wear the BCSC team uniform, and be a part of the larger travel team.
Sailing 401 Hawk Optimist Race Team

Returning Intermediate Optimist sailors and previous Green Fleeters are encouraged to sign up for this program. The coach will continue where the Intermediate program left off. This group will take racing to the next level by learning, reading wind shifts, advanced boat handling, race tactics, and race starts. The team will travel the bay competing in regattas against sailors from other yacht clubs and sailing centers. Sailors provide their own Optimist sailboat.
Sailing 402 Hawk 420 Race Team

This program is perfect for sailors looking to move up from Optis, sail on their high school team, or just want to race high performance 420’s against sailors from all over the Chesapeake Bay. Sailors will receive top-level coaching during training the first two weeks at BCSC and on the road competing on the regatta circuit. This is a fantastic way to develop the skills to continue on to high school and college racing teams. Please let the director know if your sailor has already selected another sailor to partner with for the summer.
It is recommended that you purchase a race sail if you intend to race at top levels. BCSC will provide a practice/race sail if you choose not to bring your own.
